Certified Nurse Anesthetist
A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who responsible for the safe administration of anesthesia during surgeries including general or specialized surgery such as obstetrics, diagnostic procedures, therapeutic interventions, dental surgery and more.
CRNA’s are professionals who have acquired a master’s degree with a focus in anesthesia, during operations or procedures they are responsible for the patient’s comfort and safety which includes: managing airway with advanced airway placement and intubation, monitoring oxygenation, ventilation, providing adequate sedation levels and pain management. They can provide anesthesia which may be local, intravenous, spinal, or general sedation. There is also a sub-specialty that allows CRNA’s to work in pain management providing nerve block injections and other pain management procedures.
CRNA’s can provide review cases, provide reports and testify to all aspects of the standard of care in areas where surgery or anesthesia is provided including hospitals, outpatient clinics, pain management clinics and can also speak to the standard of care for pre-op, and post-op recovery as they are involved with patients throughout the operative process.
