Burn Care or Burn ICU Nurse

A burn care nurse has special education and training in the care of patients who have suffered burn injuries and often other kinds of physical trauma. The burn care nurse assesses the physical, emotional, and psychological trauma associated with a burn injury, and they monitor and care for burn wounds and burn resuscitation and management.

Burn care nurses work mainly in a Burn Care Unit (BCU) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in hospitals, they also work in emergency rooms, at trauma centers, or in outpatient facilities with patients receiving rehab services to aid in the recovery from burn injuries.

Nurses in this role need experience in critical care nursing and certifications such as, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and can benefit from having additional training in wound management. They can also obtain certification in Advanced Burn Life Support.
