Nurses: Honesty and Ethics
From the Gallup’s annual Most Honest and Ethical Professional Poll, 2019, nurses are rated the highest in honesty and ethics. Americans were asked to rate the honesty and ethics of a wide range of professionals using the scale “very high, high, average, low or very low” and 85% rated nurses as “very high or high.”
For the 18th year in a row, nurses hold the number one spot, the second-highest profession, engineers came in 19 percent below, and medical doctors came in just behind the engineers. The poll shows how Americans trust their healthcare providers to uphold the highest levels of honesty and ethics.
The year 2020 marks the “Year of the Nurse” as designated by the World Health Organization (WHO), and Gallop announcing nurses being the number one trusted profession gives another opportunity to recognize the integrity and value nurses bring to the health care profession.
American Nurses Association (ANA) President Ernest Grant, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, stated, “I am extremely proud that nurses everywhere have been bestowed this wonderful accolade by the people whose lives they touch every day. The fact that nurses have been consistently voted the most honest and ethical professionals is a testament to the public’s trust. We’ll work hard to keep their good faith throughout 2020 and beyond.”
