Camp Nurse

Camp nurses serve a group or community usually teens and/or children in an environment such as summer camps that can last days or weeks to months.  Typically, camp nurses perform health assessments of campers to determine if they are fit to camp, collect immunization records, order and maintain supplies and equipment, administer medications as needed, provide emotional support and treat injured or ill campers or staff.  Some camps cater to disabled or chronically ill children and camp nurses may have special experience in caring for these campers.

Typically nurses with experience in school nursing will work or volunteer at summer camps, however, nurses with backgrounds in pediatric or emergency room nursing do well in this area as well.  A camp nurse can be in rural or urban areas and tend to work independently so they need to have strong assessment and judgment skills.

There are no specific certifications for camp nurses, however, they must maintain pediatric and adult CPR skills.
