Dialysis Nurse
A dialysis nurse, also known as part of a larger specialty known as nephrology nursing, has advanced training and knowledge in kidney disease. Their role is to support, administer medication, and monitor patients throughout the dialysis process and provide education on kidney disease and lifestyle support for disease management.
Dialysis nurses can work in a variety of settings where dialysis is administered including in a hospital, a clinic, or a patient’s home. A dialysis RN can receive training and experience in this specialty through the facility or company they are working for and can also choose to become certified in one or more areas through the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission, including:
• Certified Nephrology Nurse
• Certified Dialysis Nurse
• Certified Nephrology Nurse Practitioner
• Licensed Practical Nurses can become certified as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician
