Forensic Nurse
A forensic nurse has specialized training and education who works on cases such as violent crime, assault, abuse, and neglect supporting victims and helping law enforcement collect evidence. They provide testimony and consultation for civil and criminal cases related to nursing practice, standards of care, and opinions on evidence findings. The evidence collected can be used to assist, apprehend, or even prosecute perpetrators who have committed violent crimes.
A forensic nurse works in different settings including but not limited to hospitals, psychiatric institutions, anti-violence programs, correctional facilities, and coroner’s offices. They can also be called to assist in mass disasters or work in the medical examiner’s office.
