The types of patient’s trauma nurses care for range from newborn to geriatric and can include those involved in motor vehicle accidents, assault, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, head injuries, and environmental injuries.

Ideally, trauma nurses are calm and collected in high-stress work environments and have quick critical thinking skills. They often perform life-saving care and assist with emergency procedures. Nurses in this field can also become certified in-flight nursing and responding to medical emergencies and air transport.
