Rehabilitation Nurse
A Rehabilitation Nurse or Rehab Nurse works with a wide range of patients including those who have suffered orthopedic or sports injuries, spinal cord injuries, those who have suffered a stroke or those who have had joint replacement surgery.
Rehab nurses work alongside physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other members of the rehab team to restore a patient’s normal level function or depending on the injury or illness the goal of rehab may be to help prevent further injury or teaching a patient how to make adaptations.
Hospitals, clinics, rehab facilities, home care nursing agencies and long-term care facilities employ rehab nurses. In this role, a rehab nurse will provide support, education, and treatment for those patients dealing with illness, injury or disability.
To work in rehab, a nurse must have the training and experience to work with this population of patients and a nurse can also become a clinical nurse specialist and can become certified in rehab nursing.
